There's a nip in the air and you would think it's time to bring the greys and blacks back into your wardrobe. But no. Designers predict a colourful winter in India this time, with hues of sapphire, emerald and ruby topping the trends list.
"What you will see this season is loads and loads of jewel tones, so gear up for a very colorful winter. Also, brocade dresses, nice stones around the necklines accompanied by funky jewellery will be a big hit this season," designer Rana Gill told IANS.
Designers Vijay Arora and Sanchita Ajjampur said the winter season was going to be "vibrant" with the shades of whole and semi-precious stones dominating the colour palette.
"This winter season is going to be very vibrant as people are bored of greys, blacks and browns that have been dominating winter since ages," Sanchita said.
Some style gurus, however, feel that blacks and greys can never go out of fashion, as they are neutral tones.
"Jewel tones are definitely in but blacks and greys can never go out of fashion as winters also bring with them the festive and wedding season. These colours are very classy when it comes to attending such functions," explained designer Namrata Joshipura.
Designers also believe that layers hold promise this winter.
"Wear a lot of layers. Layering is a very nice thing as it keeps you warm and at the same time adds to the fashion quotient," designer Rina Dhaka said.
According to Joshipura, stockings with short skirts will be a killing combination.
"It is a myth that short skirts are meant for summers only. This winter team your short skirt with stockings and reinvent the look that will make you look sexy yet classy," she added.
For young designer Nida Mahmood, ponchos, boots and scarves make winters very special and they never go out of style.
"Winter brings along with it the pleasure of wearing scarves, boots and ponchos that you cannot wear in summers. They can never go out of style," Mahmood said.
"The perfect style tip for this winter will be to team a knee length dress with big boots. You will surely look perfect," she added.
For designer Charu Parasher, monkey caps, leather pants and mufflers are a must this winter season. "Opt for leather pants, boots, mufflers and team them up with monkey caps and some junk jewellery to look funky yet fashionable," she said.
"But make sure that you are not compromising with your comfort levels," she added.
